MATHRYCE FINAL WORKSHOP

dedicated to Hydrogen Enhanced Fatigue

null

Mechanisms, Modeling, Experiments and Pressure Vessel Design

The workshop dedicated to Hydrogen Enhanced Fatigue was held in Paris on Sept 18 2015.

The whole set of slides is available in the "news & events" section.

the current issues concerning fatigue accelerated by hydrogen gas under pressure were discussed. Invited speakers from Sandia National Lab (USA), Hydrogenius (Japan), KRISS (Rep. of Korea), and from Europe (NPL, TWI (UK), SINTEF (Norway)) exposed their on-going results on the subject. The presentations involved the following themes:

  • Fatigue testing under hydrogen pressure
  • Recent developments on H2 enhanced fatigue mechanisms, modelling and experiments
  • Scale effect: from specimens to real components
  • Critical analysis and comparison of existing codes and standards
  • Improvements or new proposed methodologies considering HEF

WS MATHRYCE V2

The final round table was the opportunity to discuss the Mathryce project results and recommendations planned to be presented in the RCS workshop (Sept. 21, Paris in AFNOR building). The main points concerned:

  • Gazeous Hydrogen uptake and trapping.
  • Mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement under fatigue loading.
  • Modeling of fatigue crack growth under hydrogen pressure
  • Experimental issues under hydrogen pressure. In particular, the control of the gas quality has been highlights. Although, the effect of H20 and O2 impurities has been identified in the literature, the experimental procedures to ensure a low level of impurities (below few ppm) in the gas surrounding the specimen are not clarified.
  • Comments on the different design methodologies existing in the existing codes.
